Impact and evolution of technologies on humanity

INTRODUCTION.

Alejandra Montoya : Technology is a process in which tools are created from human problems or needs, it advances rapidly every day and brings with it innumerable novelties in different areas, although each person has a different point of view regarding this because they do not consider It is necessary or something good that technology progresses at this speed, while other people think that it is something good that improves our quality of life and makes many things easier for us.

Today we will present the 2 points of view on this subject, taking into account the different fields in which technology is developed, different opinions and reliable sources.

TOPIC #1 : TECNOLOGIES IN THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUCION

Camila Alvear: position in favor

Danna Garzón: position against

• Creation of steam engines, transportation, etc./exploitation and enslavement of children to obtain coal

Camila Alvear: According to history, the industrial revolution was characterized by the use of new technologies applied to mass production. The first invention that enabled this new form of production was the steam engine, whose fuel was coal. Coal was the main source of energy and was crucial in the iron and steel industry. Until this event, the most widely used energy came from wood and charcoal. These energy sources could not meet the new energy needs, so coal, which was extracted from mines, had to be used.

Danna Garzón: I respect your point of view, however I think that was something that hurt some people since the obtaining of coal was due to the exploitation and slavery of men to work in the mines.  And it was also related to the exploitation of children due to the narrow roads to the mines.

• Progress in the industry/ labor exploitation

Camila Alvear:Keeping in mind that the industrial revolution meant the passage from an agrarian and artisanal economy to one marked by industry and mechanized production. It also meant the transition from a traditional, class-based society to a modern, urban, class-based society.

Danna Garzón: I do not doubt that it was like that, but that was thanks to the work of the people. The problem with this is that they worked a long time and for very little money in exchange, the workers was exploited by the bourgeoisie, which made them work much more than necessary to their own maintenance, paying them per hour worked, but keeping all the fruit of their effort.

• Economic progress and trade/ pollution

Camila Alvear: it could be said that, from the bourgeois impulse, an unprecedented commercial growth was generated that impacted the whole world. Due to the creation of important inventions, such as the railroad and the steamship, world trade developed to transport new raw materials and sell products in distant countries.

Danna Garzón: That point is valid, but in both the first and second stages of the Industrial Revolution, factory production relied heavily on the use of fuels, with consequent air pollution.  On the other hand, the excessive production of goods began to have the effect of producing more waste. It is important to emphasize that other industries, such as metallurgy, currently also emit other toxic substances such as sulfur.

INTRODUCTION #2

Andrés Daza: technology and its advances are aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of work, which is why the industrial revolution was born. From there, the technology expanded and began to cover more and more different areas, and today there are different tools and elements that help people, so it seeks to know the variations and implementations of technology today.

TOCIP #2 : IMPACT OF INDUSTRIES

Mariana Zapata: position in favor

María José Ochoa: position against

Maria José Ochoa: Cell phones have become a window between people and the world, the problem is that their sales have grown without stopping and every two years we buy a new one, which generates a great impact on the environment due to the generation of waste.

When we dispose of them, it usually goes with its battery, which is capable of contaminating all the water that a country consumes in a day. According to the study by the University of Surrey, a single battery would serve to contaminate 600,000 liters of water, since each terminal contains about 40 toxic materials, such as arsenic, zinc, lead or mercury.

Mariana Zapata: It is a good point, but, if we take a look back, tasks that previously involved a huge effort in time and resources are now done automatically in a few minutes. Technology can make the structure of the company with strong technological weight suppose lower costs than with the traditional model. Through digital marketing, companies can manage a strategy to improve the image and positioning of the company in the different social networks that exist. Currently, there are a multitude of tools and platforms that are free and therefore favor teleworking. By c, another of the great advances that technology offers is the improvement in communication.

TOPIC #3 : THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON THE ENVIRONMENT.

Camila García: position in favor

Silvana Padilla: position against

Camila García : I agree of the use of technology in the environment, it’s important like a tool for it’s conservation. There are many ways to demonstrate that technology benefits the environment, for example in the development of new energy-friendly forms of that, the development of systems that facilitate the control of energy use at home or at work or the Advancement of said technology that has allowed increasing recyclable processes of waste generated in various activities.

Silvana Padilla: However, just as technology is the key to solving various environmental problems, it is generally the cause of these. Technology is affecting the environment, generating problems such as contamination of soils, water and the atmosphere; global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, acid rain among others.

Camila García: In recent times, thanks to new technologies and technical solutions, it has been possible to gradually eliminate hazardous and harmful materials from the environment and replace them with safer ones. According to the evolution of environmental technologies, these have also allowed an improvement in economic performance.

Silvana Padilla: But, the use of practically any consumer good, such as technological products or services, has some kind of impact on the environment. If we had to classify different examples of technological contamination according to the associated risks, we could talk about those derived from the manufacture of technological products, their use and their final disposal when they end their useful life.

Polluting technologies are sapping our basic vital resources: clean water, fresh air, and fertile soil. The vast majority of the usual activities in our day to day produce pollution, whether acoustic, light or atmospheric, whose final receptor is the environment.

CONCLUSION.

María José Espinosa: So, we could say that throughout history there have appeared different devices, machines, among others, many people have a negative view on these, and others have a positive view, however, all things have good side and bad side, from there, technology is expanding every day and facilitates the work in the daily life of many people, if you look around you, it is full of technology, so we seek to know the variations and implementations of current technology, in addition to this, technology is not only electrical appliances but also all those functional and that contribute to humanity.
